How to Write the Perfect Guest Post for a Blog

Bloggers use guest posting as a way to direct traffic to a blog. This method works because it attracts a new pool of readers from the same niche.

By writing a terrific guest post for a fellow blogger, new readers begin to take notice and some may become loyal readers and subscribers.

How then is it possible to land such a great opportunity? Well the process is not that difficult. Many bloggers gladly accept contributions from other writers or bloggers because it translates into one less post to prepare, however this is not to say it is open to anyone that offers. The blogger must be able to meet certain standards and of course must contribute a post on a topic of interest.

The following are some suggestions on how to write the perfect guest post for a blog.

Research the Blog

A-list bloggers work hard to maintain their status and as such they understandably take keen interest in the quality of work presented on their blog. To land a coveted spot on a blog that is widely read and respected by members of the particular niche, it is important to do proper research on the blog in question. Prospective guest bloggers must have a clear understanding of what has been covered before as well as the general style of the blog before submitting a post for consideration.

Give the Blogger and Readers a Different Perspective

While the guest blogger must be able to match the quality of posts presented on the blog they must also be able to bring a different perspective to the table. Otherwise what would be the point of having someone different write the post?

Write the Post According to the Blogger’s Guidelines

Several major blogs are upfront about the style of writing required for their blog. Often there is a special page with guidelines and clues for interested guest posters to peruse. Make good use of these guidelines because neglecting them will surely lead to a negative response on any subsequent submission that clearly does not match the stated guidelines.

Submit the Finished Post with a Byline

Instead of writing the blogger to ask for permission it is much better to simply read the guidelines, follow them and then write the post in advance. Sending a completed post with a strong title and a short byline of who it is coming from and why is enough to get the post noticed and accepted. This approach may fair much better than sending a long account of the merits of a prospective post.

Guest blogging is not a difficult thing to do and it can lead to great benefits. It is therefore worth it to explore this option as a means to driving traffic to a blog or website.
